Is your balance in Finplan not matching the real amount and you want to know how to correct the current balance of an account on the platform?

Know that there are two simple ways to fix this. The best approach depends on whether the difference came from an error when creating the account or from unregistered or incorrectly recorded movements.

What is the current balance?

The balance represents the total value available in an account at that moment.

In Finplan, it’s calculated based on the opening balance entered when the account was created, adding entries and subtracting exits recorded.

Keeping the balance correct is essential to ensure your financial planning reflects reality.

How to correct the current balance?

There are two factors that may have affected your account balance.

Correct the current balance via opening balance

The error may have occurred when registering the account — for example, entering the wrong value as the opening balance.

You can simply edit that value.

To do this:

  • Go to your Balances screen;

  • Select the desired account to view its details;

  • Edit the opening balance.

Once corrected, your final balance will be accurate.

Correct the balance via income and expense

It’s very common that a transaction was forgotten or recorded incorrectly.

In this case, check the statement and compare it with your bank statement.

If the difference in the current balance was caused by unregistered or incorrectly recorded movements, you can make a manual adjustment to correct the account value.

Before that, it’s worth checking if any transaction:

  • Was forgotten (such as a purchase, payment, or unregistered transfer);

  • Was duplicated by mistake;

  • Was entered with an incorrect value (e.g., R$ 150 instead of R$ 15);

  • Was classified in the wrong account.

A simple review of the movement list can help identify what is causing the balance difference.

This prevents you from inserting unnecessary adjustments or losing control of financial history.

If, even after this review, the balance is still incorrect, you can register a transaction to adjust it by using:

  • Income → when the balance is lower than it should be;

  • Expense → when the balance is higher than it should be.

For organization, we recommend creating a specific adjustment category such as Balance Adjustment or Correction, and including a clear description (e.g., “Adjustment to correct previous error”).

Conclusion on how to correct the current balance of an account

Keeping your account balance correct in Finplan is essential for accurate and reliable financial planning.

If the value is incorrect, first check whether there are forgotten, duplicated, or erroneous transactions.

Only after that review should you make the necessary adjustment, whether by editing the opening balance or by registering an income or expense transaction to correct it.

With these precautions, you avoid distortions in reports and ensure your finances are always up to date.
