How to create a financial goal in Finplan?

Want to set a financial goal and check whether you are on track to reach it? Finplan has a feature built just for that: Goals.

In this article, we will explain how to create a goal, how to track your progress and what happens when you reach it.

What is a goal in Finplan?

A goal is an amount you want to reach by a specific date, either by saving money in a specific account or by looking at your total balance.

Based on your monthly contribution and expected return, Finplan projects whether you will get there on time.

How to create a goal in Finplan?

To create a goal, open the Goals menu (called Metas in the app) and start the creation. The process is split into 3 steps.

Step 1: tell us about your goal

Set the goal name, choose an image (from the ready-made options or your own photo), the goal amount and the deadline.

For the amount, you can only choose among the currencies you already have in some registered account in Finplan.

Step 2: how do you want to track it?

Choose whether you want to track the goal through your total balance or through a specific account.

Then enter how much you plan to contribute per month and the expected monthly return (the default is 0.5%, but you can adjust it).

Step 3: your goal forecast

Finplan shows a chart with your goal projection and tells you whether, at your current pace, you will reach it on time or need to review the amounts.

If everything looks right, finish by clicking Finish goal (Concluir meta in the app).

How to track and edit a goal?

When you open an existing goal, you see the progress bar and the current amount compared to the target amount. The final projection and the number of months left also appear.

You can edit the goal at any time, as long as it is not completed. If needed, you can also delete it.

What happens when I reach the goal?

When the progress reaches 100%, Finplan celebrates with you: a celebration animation appears on the screen letting you know the goal is complete.

From then on, the goal is marked as completed. You can still delete it, but you can no longer edit it.
