How to pay or split a credit card bill in Finplan?

Time to pay the card? In Finplan, you record the bill payment straight from the card, choosing which account the money came from.
In this article, we will explain how to pay the bill, how to pay in advance and how to split the bill.
How to pay the credit card bill?
Open the Credit cards menu, open the card and go to the bill you want. The bill button changes according to the bill status:
- Pay in advance: appears on open bills;
- Confirm payment: appears on closed or overdue bills.
You can also use the command palette and choose the "Pay bill" option.
How to pay in advance?
On an open bill, paying in advance pays part of the bill without closing it.
- Click Pay in advance
- Enter the Advance amount, which can be at most the bill balance
- Choose the Payment date and the Payment account
- If you want, adjust the Description
- Click Confirm advance
How to pay a closed or overdue bill?
Click Confirm payment. Before choosing the amount, set the payment date and account. Then Finplan asks how you want to proceed:
- Make payment: pay the full amount, the minimum or a custom amount;
- Split bill: divide the bill amount into installments.
When you choose Make payment, enter the Amount to pay. The Full amount shortcut fills in the whole bill at once. Finplan shows what happens with the amount you typed:
- If you pay less than the total, a notice says the rest will be moved to the next bill;
- If you pay more than the total, the excess will be credited to the next bill;
- If you pay exactly the total, "Full bill payment." appears.
Click Confirm payment and confirm the operation. When everything works, Finplan shows "Payment completed".
How to split the credit card bill?
On a closed or overdue bill, choose Split bill. You can split the whole amount or pay part now and split the rest.
- Enter the Down payment, which is optional and must be lower than the bill balance
- Set the number of Installments
- Enter the Installment amount
- Check the summary with Bill total, Total to pay and Interest
- Click Confirm split
Interest is the difference between the total you will pay and the bill balance.
Which account does the payment come from?
Finplan only shows accounts in the same currency as the card. If no option appears, you do not have an account in that currency yet. In that case, create an account in the card currency and try again.
